4 Tips for TMJ Pain Relief

When sharp pain is felt for 10 to 15 minutes every two hours or so, applying a cold compress to the area can help dull the pain. Applying a hot compress for up to 20 minutes to areas that are emitting dull pain can help increase blood circulation and in turn, relax the jaw muscles.
#2. Minerals
When combined, calcium and magnesium are two minerals that support muscle relaxation.
#3. Gentle massage
Gently massaging the painful jaw area can help relax tight muscles and can be performed throughout the day. Gently massaging the neck muscles is also recommended, as this can help reduce overall tension.
#4. Make wise food choices
Avoiding hard, crunchy and chewy foods prevents the jaw from being overworked. Instead, choosing softer foods is recommended. Also, avoid consuming caffeine, as this can lead to tension in the muscles.
